Trained in Architecture in the old world, and having honed his practice in the new, Al Bushby has been a fixture of the Canadian BC architecture community for almost 20 years, where his experience at firms including Perkins + Will, HCMA, Henriquez, and Gensler have shaped a career which has gravitated to the complex, large mixed-use development typology which punctuates the fabric of Vancouvers’ rapidly changing urban landscape.

With myriad local experiences fostering various communities around Metro Vancouver; turning to the development world in 2024, he strives to affect valuable impact from the developer side as Senior Manager of Design at PCI Developments. He brings his keen commitment to sustainability and understanding of contextual importance in creating a functional presence to PCI’s goals for their mixed use and largely transit oriented developments within Vancouvers urban environment, in response to the ever-shifting needs of our market.

Alexander is a professional with over 15 years of experience in the building materials and construction industry, specializing in the building envelope. Holding a master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Alexander has been immersed in the industry since 2008, beginning as a technical representative, where they collaborated closely with architects and installers on facade and roofing system designs and installations.

Since 2020, Alexander has led U-Kon Systems as General Manager, focusing on the development of thermally broken systems that offer both excellent thermal efficiency and structural integrity. Their solution-based, consultative approach helps clients make informed decisions regarding design and material selection. Passionate about innovation, Alexander is committed to advancing facade systems, consistently working to develop new components and details that simplify installation while improving performance for commercial façade projects.

Alexandra (Ali) Kenyon is an architect, urbanist, and mother living on the territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh). With Dutch and Italian ancestry, and raised in the Treaty Four lands of Regina, Ali is interested in the relationship between cities, buildings, landscapes, their cultural context, and the systems connecting them. She is committed to providing design solutions that catalyze community change, now and in the future.

As Associate Principal at hcma, Ali leads teams to maximize positive impact on Canadian communities through designing public spaces, aquatic and recreation centres, libraries, outdoor pools, and development master plans. Her interdisciplinary background, first in industrial design then architecture, influences her success across project scales – Alley Oop and Ackery’s Alley are two non-traditional projects that reshape the urban landscape, while the newly opened təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre brings a top-of-class civic amenity to a challenging site.

Brad McCoy is an Associate at Henriquez Partners Architects, bringing over 15 years of extensive experience in the architectural industry to his role. Based in Vancouver, Brad has specialized in mixed-use developments, contributing his technical expertise and adaptive management style to numerous projects across the city.

Over the past 7 years, Brad has played a pivotal role in the Oakridge Park redevelopment, a groundbreaking 5 million ft² project that aims to redefine urban living in Vancouver. As a complete community, Oakridge Park is located on a rapid transit stop and will bring a mix of new residential, retail, office, public realm and civic facilities, in addition to a 9-acre park.

Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Brad's career journey spans across both Boston and New York City. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), complemented by a Master of Architecture from Columbia University.Brad is passionate about integrating innovative design solutions with sustainable practices, contributing significantly to the architectural landscape of Vancouver.

Brian Hubbs is a Founder, Principal, and Senior Building Science Specialist at RDH Building Science. With over 30 years of experience as a consultant practicing exclusively in the field of building science, he is a practical façade engineer and researcher. He has broad experience with a variety of building enclosure systems, delivering consistent innovative solutions. Brian brings a unique blend of theoretical and hands-on knowledge gained from designing façades for new buildings, as well as completing hundreds of forensic investigations, rehabilitation, and research projects. He has extensive experience with high-rise and iconic façade systems, components, and materials, designing new and innovative facade systems for high-rise wood and Passive House projects. An engaging and vibrant presenter, he regularly speaks at seminars, conferences, and guest lectures on a wide range of building science and façade engineering topics.

Chris Boldt is an Associate with Henriquez Partners Architects based in Vancouver BC, a registered architect, and Certified Passive House Designer. Drawing on over 15 years of architectural experience, he seeks to demonstrate and inspire the synthesis of meaningful design, challenging programs, and impeccable execution.

Having lent his expertise to iterations of the Oakridge Redevelopment for 10 of the 13 years HPA has reimagined it, Chris’ favorite through-line is the 9 acre park draped over the rebuilt mall, from which the organic forms of the towers grow.

Dan Geddes is the Business Development Manager for Major Pursuits for Flynn Canada.  He has a wealth of knowledge in modular construction, building envelope design, architectural product selection, performance and detailing with over 25 years of experience.  He is CPHT certified and teaches regularly at BCIT’s Zero Energy Learning Centre.  Dan is passionate about his work and strives to bring innovative solutions to the table.  Dan often collaborates with his industry peers in balancing energy efficient solutions with practical installation methods.  Dan loves the outdoors and can often be found in the mountains and backcountry.

Dean has a 30-year history in the building materials and construction industry ranging from quality management to senior sales management focused on the building envelope. His approach is solution based and consultative. Dean provides practical knowledge to help with design assist and material selections for projects. He has a keen interest in innovative materials and application methods for use on commercial façade projects.

Harold is Department Manager of Vancouver’s Building Science Department, heading-up the new construction practice. He has been a Professional Licensee of Engineering since 2018 and has served as professional of record and field technician on a large variety of projects including both new construction, rehabilitation, and investigation/remediation. He is knowledgeable and experienced in building science with respect to cladding, glazing, and roofing and waterproofing systems. Harold has served on the FenBC Technical Committee and is currently serving on the Technical Committee for RCABC.

James Sergeev is Chief Executive Officer and Principal of Siber Façade Group, a driving force for innovation in the engineering, design and realization of visually stunning and energy-efficient windows and building façades. Joel Schwartz is a Principal in Building Science and President at JRS Engineering. With over 30 years of building science experience, Joel brings a depth of knowledge and expertise in high-performance, durable building envelope design. Joel’s robust portfolio includes extensive experience in new construction, façade, and fenestration engineering. His comprehensive background has made him a sought-after expert in litigation support, second opinions, and specialized technical consulting. Throughout his career, Joel has remained dedicated to the advancement of the industry. His contributions include serving as Chair of the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia’s Building Enclosure Committee and a member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia’s Building Envelope Committee. Additionally, Joel served as President of the British Columbia Building Envelope Council. Currently, he is a voting member of the Standing Committee on Environmental Separation (Part 5) for development of the 2025 National Building Code of Canada.

Jonathan Kan is an Associate and Senior Designer at Büro Ole Scheeren. Since joining in 2018, he has led teams for multiple large scale and high-rise projects in China throughout all design stages from concept to construction.

Prior to Büro-OS, Jonathan gained experience across a wide spectrum of project types, ranging from hi-rise mixed use and hospitality, to institutional, cultural, and public spaces.

He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and is a versatile designer with a particular focus and interest in sustainability and facades.

Jordi Marasse is Project Consultant Manager North America at Reynaers Aluminum. For the last 3 years Jordi has been coordinating the North American projects. Jordi consistently goes above and beyond to foster enduring partnerships with our esteemed architects, real estate developers, general contractors and engineers. By nurturing these relationships, we ensure mutual growth and success in the future.

Originally from France, Julien Léger studied architecture at Universite de Montreal and arrived in Vancouver in 2006.

Julien's portfolio is a strong mix of residential and community-based projects. He brings proven experience in project management and project delivery to the Francl Architecture team for the last 15 years. His portfolio of work demonstrates his strong organizational skills, technical abilities, and understanding of client requirements for various buildings type and scales.

He was the Project Architect for the Wesbrook Community Centre as well as The Arc for Concord Pacific. A principal at Francl Architecture, he has been instrumental in several community projects such as the Trout Lake Community Centre and Ice Rink, as well as several multi-family large scale developments such as the Terrace House.

Julien is well-versed in project documentation through all phases, coordinating with various jurisdictions in the Lower Mainland and a full team of local and international consultants. With his depth of experience, he has been able to successfully navigate extremely complex and innovative construction systems.

Leonard Pianalto's experience as an engineering consultant spans over 25 years. He is technically minded, client-focused and results oriented. As a Managing Principal, Leonard oversees a diverse team of engineers and technologists to deliver a wide array of service offerings, including building enclosure design, energy modelling, heritage preservation, structural restoration, condition assessments, demolition planning, seismic upgrading, façade engineering and specialty structural engineering.

In Leonard's technical practice, he focusses on custom façades and building maintenance.

Lisa Rammig leads the teams in Eckersley O’Callaghan’s California offices. She has played a significant role in its expansion, establishing a West Coast presence, and leading many of the group’s most challenging projects, while she remains involved in academia and has built strong links between research and industry, helping maintain the practice’s position as leaders in the field. She remains part of the Facade Research Group at TU Delft where she pursued her doctorate research and is an elected member of the Special Advisory Council of the Facade Tectonics Institute at the University of Southern California. Her teaching experience includes engagements at MIT, TU Delft, TU Darmstadt and the California Academy of Arts. Publications include scientific papers, industry journals and contributions to technical books.

Maeve Counihan is a problem-solving designer. She’s passionate about projects that contribute to a community’s social fabric, prioritizing functionality and universal accessibility while simultaneously upholding the core design intent. Most rewarding to Maeve is how consistent attention to small details can lead to enormous value for a community, always ensuring a high-quality result that will materially stand the test of time.

At hcma, Maeve plays an instrumental role delivering cutting-edge, impact-driven aquatic and recreation facilities, including the award-winning, recently opened təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre where she acted as designer and contract administrator. A natural synthesizer, Maeve manages complex projects with ease. But to many, Maeve’s greatest strength is her ability to connect, communicate, and collaborate with everyone she meets.

A registered architect and mechanical engineer, Martin brings over two decades of experience and leadership to the firm’s urban design, mixed-use development, higher education, and transportation projects. At DIALOG, Martin is a founder of the Green Practice Roundtable, an internal research arm to advance sustainable outcomes.

He believes every project is an opportunity to find and implement holistic and cutting-edge solutions that change the trajectory of how we build. His work is responsible for pushing the industry to innovate, and his projects are often recognized as the most sustainable across the continent. As a result, the enhancement of health for both people and the planet are commonplace throughout Martin’s portfolio. Martin is the Partner-in-Charge for the LEED® Gold targeting Hive (2150 Keith Drive) project.

Mike has 30 years of experience in the Lower Mainland's real estate development business working for industry-leading general contractors, construction managers, and developers. Since joining Keltic 5 ½ years ago he has managed the construction and completion of nearly 1000 homes and commercial units.

Nathaniel Funk is the Vice President, Development at Bosa Properties, where he leads a diverse portfolio of mixed-use high-rise projects in downtown Vancouver and Surrey City Centre. He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia and is NCARB Certified in the United States.Nathaniel began his career as an architect in Chicago, working on a variety of projects across the country before transitioning into real estate development in British Columbia. His extensive project experience includes multi-family residential housing, hotel, commercial office, retail, industrial, institutional, and heritage developments in both urban and rural environments.

Working with his project team and overseeing the envelope for EllisDon at Oakridge Redevelopment project, Rodel Sebastian has several years in overseas procurement including metal cladding systems and glazing systems. Focusing on de-risking scheduling and QA/QC concerns related to overseas procurement his team places a strong focus on tender documentation, complying with construction documentation and local legislation as well as streamlining the completion of design.

Rui is a Principal at Henriquez Partners. As part of HPA's role as Design Architect on the project, he has overseen the design and execution of the 5 million ft2 Oakridge Redevelopment project over the last 13 years, taking it from its initial rezoning through to its ongoing construction. Since joining the studio in 1999, Rui has led a number of complex projects such as the SFU Shrum Chemistry Renovation, the SAGE residential tower at Wesbrook Place at UBC, and the Lynn Valley Town Centre and Library. A LEED AP, he was also the project team lead on the BC Cancer Research Centre, the first LEED Gold Laboratory in Canada.

Ryan McClanaghan is an architect at DIALOG. He is currently immersed in DIALOG’s growing portfolio of mass timber projects, where he pairs creativity with expertise. Ryan is committed to design that pushes innovation, research, and collaboration driven by context, culture, and sustainability. Ryan is an emerging leader in mass timber construction with significant projects in design and construction. He also contributes his mass timber expertise to municipal and post-secondary advisory panels. Ryan is now expanding his material palette beyond timber to include other low-carbon bio-based materials. Ryan is the project designer of 2150 Keith Drive.

After many years selling in the local glass fabrication market, a corporate decision to switch into the commodity distribution market allowed Seth Maretz to further a brand and expand the buying and selling reach globally. Now Partner and President of Glass 3, Seth utilizes those historical skills, paired with market knowledge. Glass 3 specializes in providing the highest quality custom glass through their global partnerships.

Sophie Mercier is a building enclosure specialist and co-founder of Evoke Buildings, established four years ago and now employing over 20 staff. With 25 years of experience, she has a proven track record of working collaboratively and successfully with developers, builders, and design teams. Passionate about her field, she has dedicated numerous volunteer hours to the industry through presentations and committee work, including presiding over the BC Building Envelope Council and chairing the EGBC Building Enclosure Advisory Group, among others.
