Brian Hubb is a Founder, Principal, and Senior Building Science Specialist at RDH Building Science. With over 30 years of experience as a consultant practicing exclusively in the field of building science, he is a practical façade engineer and researcher. He has broad experience with a variety of building enclosure systems, delivering consistent innovative solutions. Brian brings a unique blend of theoretical and hands-on knowledge gained from designing façades for new buildings, as well as completing hundreds of forensic investigations, rehabilitation, and research projects. He has extensive experience with high-rise and iconic façade systems, components, and materials, designing new and innovative facade systems for high-rise wood and Passive House projects. An engaging and vibrant presenter, he regularly speaks at seminars, conferences, and guest lectures on a wide range of building science and façade engineering topics.

Ana Maria Llanos leads the Vancouver studio of Diamond Schmitt and has over 20 years experience with the firm. Her work is focused on western Canada, including institutional, health care facilities, performing arts, residential, commercial, restoration and academic projects.

A commitment to design excellence is accompanied by rigorous project management skills and a proven track record of delivering complex projects on time and on budget. She is a well versed in a wide range of delivery methods and has completed projects using IPD, Stipulated Sum, CM and P3 models.

Ana Maria was Project Architect for the recently completed Emily Carr University of Art + Design, a landmark for the City of Vancouver and a state-of-the-art facility for 3,800 students, faculty and staff. As Executive Architects for the large Oakridge Redevelopment, she is leading Diamond Schmitt’s involvement to deliver residential towers, the Civic Centre and the interior design of the retail areas.

She is a graduate of UBC’s School of Architecture and is rooted in the west coast lifestyle of British Columbia.

Anthony Brown is an English registered Architect with over 10 years of experience in the industry. He has been with Diamond Schmitt Architects for the last 5 years after immigrating around this same time to the West Coast of Canada. His work experience spans a number of sectors both in Canada and in the UK; including residential, commercial, institutional and academic projects.

Anthony is currently the Senior Designer for TELUS Ocean which is currently under construction, and will represent a landmark building for TELUS operations in the downtown Victoria core. He was also an integral part of the design team for the large Oakridge Redevelopment; where Diamond Schmitt are Executive Architects, delivering residential towers and a civic centre around an expansion to the existing mall.

He has for a number of years found his experiences and aptitude have focussed his involvement on projects towards a largely technical role; bringing years of experience of BIM related systems, detailing and construction documentation as an invaluable asset to each new project and team.

He is a graduate of both University of Newcastle and Leeds Metropolitan Universities in the United Kingdom. When he is not working he can be found pursuing any number of outdoor activities that involve exploring the vastness of British Columbia.

John Krouse is a Ceramic Engineer and the CEO of Boston Valley Terra Cotta in Orchard Park, NY. Boston Valley specializes in the manufacturing of historic terra cotta replication, new construction and innovation in contemporary rain screen design and production. Krouse is a graduate of Alfred University with a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering and a minor in Ceramic Sculpture and has over 37 years of experience in terra cotta manufacturing. Boston Valley has successfully completed well over 3,000 building projects with Krouse leading the company. These projects range in size and scope from large government buildings to small private art galleries.

Patrick is a building science specialist with over 19 years of consulting experience related to building science and energy efficiency. Patrick’s focus in recent years has been providing tools and guidance to the industry to help practitioners make informed design decisions related to constructability, thermal, energy and hygrothermal performance.

Christian Cianfrone is a mechanical engineer with over 15 years of experience in building energy efficiency. Christian built and led one of Canada's largest energy consulting practices for nearly a decade, where he worked on hundreds of projects, including co-developing energy policy across Canada. In 2018, Christian launched and led the Vancouver non-profit, ZEBx, to catalyze the construction of zero emissions buildings in Vancouver. Currently, as EllisDon's Director of Decarbonization, Christian supports both clients and internal staff to implement cost-effective strategies for zero carbon new and existing buildings.

Dan Geddes is the Business Development Manager for Major Pursuits for Flynn Canada. He has a wealth of knowledge in modular construction, building envelope design, architectural product selection, performance and detailing with over 25 years of experience. He is CPHT certified and teaches regularly at BCIT’s Zero Energy Learning Centre. Dan is passionate about his work and strives to bring innovative solutions to the table. Dan often collaborates with his industry peers in balancing energy efficient solutions with practical installation methods. Dan loves the outdoors and can often be found in the mountains and backcountry.

Leonard Pianalto's experience as an engineering consultant spans over 25 years. He is technically minded, client-focused and results oriented. As a Managing Principal, Leonard oversees a diverse team of engineers and technologists to deliver a wide array of service offerings, including building enclosure design, energy modelling, heritage preservation, structural restoration, condition assessments, demolition planning, seismic upgrading, façade engineering and specialty structural engineering.

In Leonard's technical practice, he focusses on custom façades and building maintenance.

Brett Pattrick is a façade specialist and project manager with over 16 years of experience specializing in building facades. Brett’s wide-ranging experience includes a variety of projects focusing on specialist glazing design, façade design and construction, with specific focus on complex façade and glazing systems. Brett’s façade consulting experience includes various significant projects in North America, the Middle East and Africa. Brett’s background and interest in the structural design of various façade and secondary structural systems, combined with knowledge and expertise in system design, assessment, detailing and specifying provides him with the ability to understand how the overall façade package can be integrated into the building design. Brett has led several teams through the façade consulting, design, and engineering on a variety of building types and is well versed in developing a design that meets specific performance requirements while respecting the architect’s design aspiration and project budget and schedule limitations.

Timothy Wong brings more than 10 years of professional industry experience to his role across Canada, the United States, and abroad. Educated in architecture and engineering methodologies, his building envelope work focuses on material selection, system analysis and testing, environmental and structural performance, long-term behavior, fabrication, and detailing.

Timothy applies his depth of knowledge of building science to each of his projects, ensuring carefully considered assemblies and passive strategies are implemented to their fullest potential within the context of their site and function. His portfolio includes high-rise and wide-span structures, commercial, sports and recreation, institutional, government, and residential projects.

Bryan Lemos Beça is a Senior Associate with Office of McFarlane Biggar Architects + Designers in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He is a licensed architect with a diverse range of project experience from complex renovation projects to large-scale urban design and masterplans. As a Certified Passive House Designer and WELL AP, Bryan positions environmental and social responsibility at the forefront of his work with a particular focus on low carbon building, energy performance, and assembly design. He has specific expertise in heritage rehabilitation and addition projects, embracing the challenge of designing sensitive and contextually thoughtful interventions that preserve essential character while working toward the urgent goal of reducing both operational and embodied carbon.

Teodor Caragioiu is a Façade Specialist at Reynaers Aluminium in Duffel, Belgium, with over 16 years of successful experience in façade engineering and design for high-rise, high-performance projects.

Graduated from the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest, Romania in 2002 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Concrete Bridges.

Between 2002 and 2006 Teodor worked as a concrete structures formwork technical engineer.

In 2006 he started his career in the Façade industry, working with the largest façade contractor in Nicosia, Cyprus, on large scale, high-profile projects like Tradewinds Towers in Gibraltar, Tower 25 by Jean Nouvel in Nicosia, or the Olympic Residences twin towers in Limassol, the tallest structures in Cyprus at the time. In the period spent in Cyprus he developed skills in façade fabrication, detailing, installation and project management.

In 2014 he moved to Belgium and started working for the leading European façade systems supplier Reynaers Aluminium as a project engineer, designing customized façade project solutions for large scale projects like The Quad Towers in Malta, The Al Fattan and Boulevard Heights towers in Dubai, The 589 Fulton Tower in NYC, and many other high-profile projects throughout USA, Europe, China, Middle East and Australia. He is the specialist in structural façade design, with competences in high-performance air-water tightness and high wind zones applications, with a focus on thermal performance and architectural design.

Dr. Huang is currently the technical director of Architectural Glass Division of CSG which is the leading low-e glass manufacturer in China. With over eighteen years’ experience in energy efficient glass for buildings, Dr. Huang has worked on numerous landmark buildings at different locations in the world for glazing solutions, and participated in many related Chinese code activities. He is experienced in specifying glass performance to provide proper guidance for energy efficiency design of buildings and in new product development.

Rick Gregory is a senior executive with over 30 years experience in the planning and execution of large complex construction projects. Both private and public sector, his portfolio spans major civil, institutional, resort, hotel, office, retail and residential projects.

Rick has led teams on the owner’s side for the majority of his career. He worked for Minto managing their 2 flagship mixed-use projects in Ottawa and Toronto. During a 10-year period while stationed overseas, he was the project manager responsible for the design and construction of the Burj al Arab in Dubai. Upon returning to Canada, he joined Intrawest as its Senior VP of Construction overseeing the design and construction of their pedestrian-centric village development projects globally.

Rick was leading Henson's team on its landmark 60-storey passive house tower in downtown Vancouver. Following its acquisition by Montreal’s Brivia Group, he has joined their Vancouver operation as Project Director for Curv.

Evan Levelle currently heads Front’s London office, having worked with Front in New York and Hong Kong since 2007. His work has primarily focused on designing bespoke and complex cladding systems, developing and implementing strategies for global sourcing of materials and systems, and leading various Front projects for specialist contractors. Evan has a passion for and deep understanding of the technology and processes that drive innovation in construction, fed by his extensive experience on sites and in factories, reviewing project materials.

Earlier in his career, Evan earned his degree in architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology and worked as a software developer in San Francisco. Evan’s experience in the development and management of complex geometry projects and design for manufacturing spans more than 50 projects on four continents at a variety of scales, materials, and programs including the Capital Market Authority Tower (PIF Tower) in Riyadh with HOK and Omrania, the Grace Farms Foundation in Connecticut with SANAA, the Morpheus Hotel in Macau with Zaha Hadid Architects, and the Lusail Plaza Towers in Doha with Foster + Partners. In addition to project work, Evan has lectured widely at universities globally and has published several papers on developing workflows and design for parametric fabrication modelling and engineering.

John Douglas is Group Pre-Construction Director at Alutec. Headquartered in Qatar, Alutec delivers projects across the world and has offices & facilities in Toronto, Vancouver, Switzerland, Ireland, India and Shanghai. Alutec is currently working on several towers across North America, including the CURV in Vancouver.

A Civil Engineer with a degree from Trinity College Dublin, John’s work has been focused on the delivery of complex geometry mega projects, mainly towers and stadia. He has a keen interest in the digital workflow from parametric models, through automated production and installation. With 20 years of experience in varied regions globally, he uses this knowledge & experience to engage early with developers and architects, to help deliver cost-effective and constructable solutions, to complex building envelopes.

He has delivered over 30 major projects and notable highlights include Lusail Plaza Towers & the Fifa 2022 World Cup Final Stadium – Lusail Stadium (both by Foster + Partners), Aviva Stadium, Dublin & Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium, London (both by Populous) & Hamad Port, Qatar (PLP Architects). He has spoken widely at conferences about the delivery of complex facades.

Working across a wide spectrum of RDH’s core practice areas in his roles as a consultant, researcher, and educator, Lorne Ricketts is able to leverage his multifaceted expertise to identify optimal solutions to complex building science problems. His portfolio includes various innovative projects, such as Oakridge, Yasodhara Ashram Temple of Light, and Nelson Street Passive House.

As a trusted consultant, Lorne regularly works closely with architects and developers to achieve their design and performance goals. Lorne’s typical projects include world-class architecture, industry-leading energy efficiency, and cutting-edge building technologies.

In his role as leader of our Building Science Laboratories team in Vancouver, Lorne works with manufacturers, governments, and industry organization to develop and test the next generation of building systems, and to lead change through the production of numerous industry-leading guidance and research documents.

Lorne is deeply committed to education and is an accomplished presenter, having spoken at numerous conferences and industry events across North America. In addition to his work with RDH, Lorne also passes on his knowledge to the next generation of engineers as an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia, where he teaches building science in the Department of Civil Engineering.

Padraig McMorrow is a sustainability-focused architect at Arcadis IBI, guiding projects to reach Net Zero Carbon and deliver significant greenhouse gas emission reductions, through innovative and cost-effective measures. He is a Certified Passive House Designer, consulting on Aracdis IBI Group’s portfolio of large Passive House buildings across Europe and North America. He was responsible for the architectural detailing on the firms first certified passive house building and continues to grow his portfolio in residential, cultural and healthcare buildings, which meet this stringent building energy standard.

Padraig’s knowledge of high-performance building is combined with his whole life carbon analysis studies, accounting for embodied carbon to achieve carbon neutral buildings. Working in the UK and North America, lessons learnt from both continents are being applied to broaden his firm’s approach to Net Zero architecture.

As Managing Principal of significant projects around the world, Peter Gross breaks down silos and brings together people from diverse disciplines to solve problems and generate aesthetic, sustainable, and buildable solutions.

Whether in North America, China, or Southeast Asia, Peter bridges different working styles and balances local sensibilities with more universal concerns about space, function, and form. Some of Peter’s major endeavors include the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Guangzhou, a campus for 10,000 students and faculty, CITIC Tower, Beijing’s tallest building, and Thamrin 9, an award-winning development in Jakarta.

Expanding the firm’s work in Canada, Peter is involved in several recent developments in Vancouver. Burrard Exchange is one of the tallest exposed hybrid mass timber office buildings in North America at 260 feet tall. Adjacent to Vancouver’s historic Rogers Building, 601 West Pender interweaves elements of nature and architecture to create an urban oasis within the city.

Geoff Shellard is the architectural design manager covering the Pacific Northwest: British Columbia, Alberta, Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. He works with glaziers, architects, developers and specification writers to gain project specifications.

Geoff previously spent almost 8 years with glass fabricator PFG Glass Industries Ltd. In Langley, British Columbia, finishing that tenure as senior architectural sales representative. His education includes marketing management and home inspections, and certifications in biohazard, mold and IAQ inspection and remediation.

Balazs Bognar is an American architect and Partner at Kengo Kuma & Associates in Tokyo, Japan. He has been working directly with Kengo Kuma to lead the office’s North American projects since 2007, combining imagination and rigor with a personable team approach.

He received his Master of Architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (2003), and his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis (2000).

Notable completed work includes Amanpuri’s Retail Pavilion in Phuket, Thailand (2019), Rolex Tower in Dallas, Texas (2018, receiving the 2019 Engineering News-Record Global Best Office Building Project); Portland Japanese Garden’s Cultural Village in Oregon (2017, receiving the 2018 Eurasian Prize, and the 2019 American Institute of Architects Japan Award, among others); and Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo, Japan (2014).

Balazs is currently overseeing projects in Sydney and throughout the U.S., with ongoing construction in Vancouver, Dallas, and Los Angeles.

Gregory Borowski’s architectural vision is steeped in his unusual life experience. Born in England, as a child his father took him around to see many significant architectural projects in Europe. An interest in the poetic potential of contemporary architecture has subsequently informed his work. In 1999, he took on a position with Aeroports de Paris, where he worked on the new satellite terminal of the landmark Charles de Gaulle airport.

In 2001, Gregory returned to Vancouver and assumed partnership with Merrick Architecture. Greg has a passion to bring forward fresh perceptions to significant projects, and believes firmly in the role of a building in the broader context of the city and nature. He has chaired Vancouver’s as well as UBC’s Urban Design Panels. He is presently engaged in the 1177 Burrard tower, has completed Sewell’s Landing in Horseshoe Bay, and is finishing the Alberni project with Kengo Kuma & Associates.

Louise Webb joined Merrick Architecture as one of the project architects for the substantial team effort required for Vancouver’s Olympic Village. She brought with her a proven track record of working on fast track and high density housing projects both in the US and British Columbia. Louise relocated from her native England in 2000, where she worked in many different fields including social housing, health care, refurbishment of large post war housing projects and laboratories. The application of her cross-section of abilities was instrumental to the success of the post-disaster Transportation Management Centre in Coquitlam.

Louise became an equal partner at Merrick Architecture in January 2019. She is presently engaged on completing the extensive renovation of a Class C heritage building in Vancouver and is completing 1568 Alberni project in collaboration with Kengo Kuma & Associates on which she started 8 years ago as the project architect.

Chris Fronsoe is the National Architectural Team Manager for the Western USA and Western Canada at Vitro Architectural Glass for commercial projects in the Northwest Region.

Chris has years of experience working with general contractors, glaziers, architects and glass fabricators. For the commercial glass market, he brings design knowledge for both vertical and sloped glazing projects. Chris also worked with top executive and scientific research teams for the solar, automotive and appliance glass market segments. In previous roles, he has been active working with glass fabricators worldwide and setting up global distribution networks.

Chris is a graduate of George Fox College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Organizational Leadership. He served on technical committees with the Glass Association of North America and the National Glass Association and has been a featured speaker at Glass Performance Days, GlassCon Global, ZAK Facades and Façade Tectonics.

Dean has a 30-year history in the building materials and construction industry ranging from quality management to senior sales management focused on the building envelope. His approach is solution based and consultative. Dean provides practical knowledge to help with design assist and material selections for projects. He has a keen interest in innovative materials and application methods for commercial and residential façade projects.

Joel Schwartz is a Principal and Senior Building Science Specialist at JRS Engineering. With over 30 years of building science experience, Joel brings a depth of knowledge and expertise in high-performance, durable building envelope design. His innate understanding of the complex relationship between building envelope systems and environmental factors has placed him at the forefront of the building science industry. Joel’s robust portfolio includes extensive experience in new construction, façade, and fenestration engineering. His comprehensive, multidisciplinary background has made him a sought-after expert in litigation support, second opinions, and specialized technical consulting. Joel provides expert support for projects across North America.

Joel’s passion stems from a commitment to improving our built environment. His interest in durable and sustainable design led him to pursue a career in building science, and eventually founding JRS Engineering. Throughout his career, Joel has remained dedicated to the advancement of the industry through life-long learning and mentorship. His industry contributions include serving as Chair of the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia’s Building Enclosure Committee and a member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia’s Building Envelope Committee. Additionally, Joel served as President of the British Columbia Building Envelope Council. Currently, he is a voting member of the Standing Committee on Environmental Separation (Part 5) for development of the 2025 National Building Code of Canada.

Jeff Ker’s 30+ years of technical sales experience with the Ontario Architectural and Design community benefit each project he undertakes. His experience includes two years in the West-Coast market and eleven years in the Eastern-Canadian market; representing a variety of RVRS systems. With a solid background in technical sales, project management and liaison with the construction community; Jeff enjoys a tireless passion with matters of a technical nature in his personal and professional life. Jeff Ker is a regular speaker at Construct Canada, including speaking engagements at Contech(Montreal), CEBQ(Quebec), World Design Summit, Toronto CSC Building Expo, Buildex Vancouver, CSC Vancouver & Halifax in addition to various installation seminars.

Jason Isackson is the Senior Director of Sales at HALIO, and has over 10 years of experience in the smart building technology space. He’s passionate about sustainability/energy savings, innovative technologies, and providing wellness to occupants. Jason works closely with architects, engineers, owners, and contractors to support and promote innovative smart glass technologies.

Heather Reid is a professional engineer with broad experience and perspectives. She has been in the construction industry for more than 20 years and has sat in various seats at the table: owner’s representative, consultant, contractor, educator, and industry organization director. In her current position at Chard Development, she leads the customer experience team and leverages her extensive technical knowledge to support the development and construction groups in all project phases. She is a former Principal of RDH Building Science where she specialized in existing buildings and led a group of technologists and engineers. Prior to RDH, Heather helped build one of the top façade access consulting companies in the US and worked with leading design teams on iconic projects in Southern California. She is passionate about finding practical, innovative, low-carbon solutions to the climate and housing crises and is a dedicated mentor who champions new kids on the block.
